Hair Today……Prom Tomorrow

Browsing the Internet this morning, for the latest prom hair trends, I came upon something that I found to be rather disturbing……and no I am not talking about the Taylor Swift Side Bun….Though, to be honest, that look should be banned for at least a year.

I’m talking about average every day 16 and 17 year old’s demanding couture for proms!!  Believe me, as a dresser, I understand the need to stand out at your prom.  What I don’t understand, is these kids (lets call a spade a spade) demanding $800 Louboutin Prive’s and custom gowns to attend a prom.  And I am not talking about Kylie Jenner’s prom….I am talking the girl next door.  This is where media is failing today’s youth.  These kids come in, wanting to look 25, with Kardashian Hair and a Smokey Eye….They are forgetting to just enjoy being 16!!

SO Today, my call to action is to the parents……over-indulgence is never a good thing…..Giving kids there every hearts desire, breeds spoiled and entitled brats.

And to the Kids……Enjoy your youth, one day you will be 25….probably having the time of your life…and then you’ll be 35, working to cover up those wrinkles, spending all day  on your feet in your Louboutin’s…with aching feet and wishing your were 16 again!!!!

Just A Thought…..

Waiting Areas…….

So…..recently I have been thinking about “Waiting Areas”…..And I am wondering what the facination is with a fabulous waiting area??!!!  Recently our waiting area, here at RyanJacobie came under scrutiny, I beleive the words were “I was asked to wait in the waiting area, which wasn’t really much of a waiting area at all”.

What does that mean????  Why on earth would a business take space away from where they can work….to provide a lovely place from your guest to WAIT FOR YOU????  Personally, I abhore going into a salon and being asked to wait more than 10 minutes for my appointment.  As Dressers, we are trained in time management, and very rarely will we have a guest sit and just WAIT for us to finish.

To me, “Waiting Areas” belong in Doctor’s Offices, or at the DMV…..Where I expect to wait.  Give me some lovely comfy chairs there, and some zines to read.  B/C trust me, when I go there, I expect to wait (possibly HOURS) for my appointment to commence.

So People….think about it!!  This is your call to action……check out you local salons, and look inside at what you see?  A full salon, with people sitting in a LOVELY Waiting Area…..Just WAITING???  ORRR….Do you a salon full of people….and and small, quaint and comfortable EMPTY Waiting Area???  Robert Cromeans (Artist Global Director of JPMS and Owner of A Robert Cromeans Salon, a multi-million dollar chair of upscale salons) teaches us that guests should wait no more than 5 minutes for their appointment.  So what is the sense in a HUGE WAITING ROOM, that outshines your Salon and your Work????

2011….

Hello My Darlings……So Yes Yes, I have taken yet another little vacay from my blogging.  I would apologize…if it were my style. But it’s not.  I am over it, so you should be too!!

So as we start into 2011 and start to think of 2010 as a fond memory…..Remember, at RyanJacobie…there are no “Ends”….only “New Beginnings”…..Wasn’t that profound of me?

                                  ****HIGHLIGHTS****

2010 was an amazing year for our little home away from home….we had the joy of watching our friend Andy South taken on Fashion Week….though, I personally believe he was robbed….(but that’s a whole nother blog)…and working with him for his PR Finale Party @ The Stage!!

We got to explore our dark side with the “Miss Vamp” pageant, with DJ Nocturna…and turn beautiful ladies into even more beautiful “Creatures of the Night”

We painted 160 ballet dancers, as the FIRST EVER PROFESSIONAL TEAM to do make-up for Ballet Hawaii’s Winter Performance of “The Nuttcracker”

We learned some fabulous tips from a personal class with Ro’Shar, celebrity make-up artist!!

We cut hair in the Koolau Mountains, at the Nissan Xterra Event

We all got the chance to be MODELS (not “Models”) at our salon photoshoot, with the very talented and extremely cute…Harold Julian!!!

Passion……

Yes, I know this should be the start of my “Expose:  The Stylists Of RyanJacobie”….But I just re-read a blog of mine, and the words….”Sometimes Life Get’s In The Way Of Passion”….Just jumped out at my face!!!  Isn’t PASSION LIFE?  Can you live without passion….Wait…don’t get all 5th grade on me and think I am stuck on “Days of Our Lives” passion…..But the passion of life.  What makes you get out of bed every morning?  The Alarm?  The Smell of Coffee?  The Fear Your Boss Will Fire You If You Are Late??????  ORRRR…..Is it that you have true passion for what you do?!!  Just think about my words…..”Sometimes Life Get’s In The Way Of Passion”……Can you live with out passion…..Is life without passion~Living Life, or just Existing?  Thoughts?

Off Topic…!!!

Have you had the luxury of working in a place you truly love, feel accepted and comfortable?  If not…I urge you to find that place!!  At RyanJacobie, we have that.  We are a team and a family, in every sense of the words.  United all by the vision of our boss, Ryan C.  And I just really wanted to take the time for all the readers the understand how much we support each other in work, life and everything in between!! Whether it’s a daily phone call to see how the salon is running and how everyone is doing….or the nightly download of the days events….or just a bitch fest when we need to get something off our chests…We are all there for one another.  I guess you are wondering where I am going with all this…Really it stems back to one key event that happened in the past week…..It started with the KLS Fashion Show, and when it came about, that the WHOLE TEAM couldn’t work backstage….The boys made sure the whole team would still be there, by purchasing tickets for the girls….So no one missed out on the fun or felt left out…….And that single even got me thinking about how we really are there for one another.  I’ve been at jobs where you get together now and then for lunch or dinner….But I’ve never been at a “job” where your co-workers really look out for for one another and sometimes put their own needs on the back burner.  So…If you are in your typical run of the mill job…..really I want to shout…”GET OUT OF THERE……Find A Place Where TEAM UNITY and FRIENDSHIP Are Just As High On The List As Making Money”……But I know it’s not realistic to do.  Life get in the way of passion sometimes.  Bills need to be paid and dinner needs to be on the table.  But I can still urge you, if you aren’t happy……it doesn’t hurt to look….Maybe there is someplace out there that is a better fit for you.

Kouture By KLS………

Yes, again I have been M.I.A….but for good reason!!  Last week the Senior Stylists of our RyanJacobie team had the honor of participating in “Kouture By Kimora” the Kimora Lee Simmons Fashion Show!!  And all that can be said about that, is of course, Sheer Fabulosity!!!  :-)  The day started at 1pm, with the boys packing up their suitcases prepared for any and all potential crisis.  While the girls closed up the salon and started to get Fabulous to attend the show as guests…and then started again at 8pm with the music starting and the stomping began!!  Girls were gorgeous…and the boys were heavenly!!

Simply put, it was a perfect day!!  Backstage with all the energy and chaos….or in the audience watching the fashion stomp before our eyes…..Where I was…I’ll never tell!!  But I will tell you this….Kimora Lee Simmons, up close and personal is absolutely gorgeous….and in a perfect little black dress, tight in all the right places, beautifully draped in all the right places and 5 inch gold stilettos, my actual first thought was “Wow….She’s Freaking TALL!!!!”

So here are some pictures of the team….all separated, yet still unified!! It was a night of fashion, fun and fabulousity!!!

Ryan with the GORGEOUS Courtney (Thanks CocoSirens For Following Us!!!)

(L-R) Davy, Ryan, Landon and Joslyn….Backstage…Working Hard, Yet Still Looking Amazingly Fabulous!!!

(L-R) Deena, Alyse and Kylie….Waiting Patiently For The Show To Begin…After Hours Or Pre-Show Prepping….Hair and Make-Up Was Flawless!!!

So Guys….This was the sneak peak at the “Kouture By KLS” Fashion Show…..If you want to see more…..Best check out “Kimora, Life In the Fab Lane”….Did I forget to mention she was filming for her show as well??!!  My bad!!!

Chroma-Cakes and Glitter……Your Typical Saturday!!

Two-Words…..Art Spree!!  Saturday July 10, RyanJacobie was buzzing with energy at the ungodly hour of 6am!!  The whole team came in early on a Saturday to work the 6 models for the Contemporary Museum Of Arts, Annual Art Spree.  The organized chaos was beautiful.

With Ryan, Kylie and Davy in the front of the house, creating beautiful hair and avant-garde make-up complete with hand blown glitter covering the girls…..Alyse and Deena were in the back room, covered in paint……It felt like a very luscious preschool.  The only constant that morning, was Landon, diligently seeing his clients, one after the other with poise and grace….and this writer knows fully well, that his head wanted to explode at fine dusting of glitter that now graces every surface of the salon!!

I’ve come to realize that individually we shine, but as a team we sparkle…..creating magic along the way.  It’s an amazing blessing to not only love what you do, but who you do it with!!  Spending the day with friends old and new…..and getting a little dirty…What’s better than that????!!

Anyhow, it’s time for me to go off and do what I do…….And Remember….

Hiatus….???

So, I know it seems like I’ve been on a hiatus for a while.  When in actuality, I along with the entire RyanJacobie Team have been super busy!!!

We had an amazing time with the Team at Woman’s Surf and Style Magazine, doing their Annual Bikini’s and Board Shorts Fashion Show!!!  The show was on June 19 at Senor Frogs.  The girls were dazzling, the boys were sexy and the swimwear was gorgeous.  As part of the hair and makeup team, we were in the back, in a small hot room…..BUT don’t misunderstand me.  The energy in the room was so infectious, we didn’t even realize how hot and cramped we were until we got outside.  It’s always exciting to work under the pressure of a fashion show, and still know that your last girl is just as gorgeous as the first!!!  The Team from WSSM was so much fun to work with and so professional.  It’s always a blessing to have an event coordinated so well!!

Now, on to THE MODELS….I will say, that though there were very few professional models in the mix (mostly they were beautiful surfers, who have been featured in the Mag), they were AMAZING.  I really only encountered one girl who had a bit of a diva-ish atti…..she was concerned that her makeup be just as lovely as the other girls and didn’t want anything avant-garde.   Well, as much as I wanted to stick my $40 M.A.C. brush in her eye……I calmly told her the look wasn’t avant-garde, it was going to be beauty make-up.  She seemed satisfied with that answer and hushed for the remainder of time she was in my chair and she only came back 3 TIMES to have my make small adjustments to her look.  J  Okay, so ya, she was DIVA.  But all the other girls were so awesome; it fully made up for diva-girls atti!!  It was so refreshing to work with such an amazing team.  And I know we are looking forward to more fun events like this one!!

Here are some sneak peaks of backstage…….…..makeup by our very own Landon F…..

Well, that’s all for now….Remember…If you have to be two-faced, at least make one of them BEAUTIFUL….
